Flight Doctor Named Best in Air National Guard

FARGO, N.D. - A flight doctor with the North Dakota Air National Guard has been named one of the best in the nation. Lt. Col. Fred Black, the 119th Wing chief of aerospace medicine, received the U.S. Air Force Clinical Excellence Award in the field-grade officer category for the Air National Guard.

FARGO, N.D. - A flight doctor with the North Dakota Air National Guard has been named one of the best in the nation. Lt. Col. Fred Black, the 119th Wing chief of aerospace medicine, received the U.S. Air Force Clinical Excellence Award in the field-grade officer category for the Air National Guard.

"Time and again, our Guardsmen and units earn national-level awards. Lt. Col. Black is yet another fine example of what makes the North Dakota National Guard the best in the nation," said Maj. Gen. David Sprynczynatyk, North Dakota adjutant general, who presented Black with the award during an Aug. 3 ceremony.

Black joined the Guard in 2000 and serves in the 119th Medical Group. Black attended Des Moines University Medical School, Ia., and did his residency through the University of Iowa in Des Moines.

He is originally from Boone Grove, Ind., and resides in Grand Forks, N.D., with his wife Vicky, and sons Kai and Kameron.
