Morning fire damages Grand Forks home

The Grand Forks Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at the five thousand block of sixth avenue north.

According to Battalion Chief Kelli Flermoen, a fire had started behind the house and traveled up into the home's attic. The homeowner was home and attempted to extinguish the blaze with a garden hose. Firefighters cut holes in the roof to gain access to the fire. Damage is estimated at 50,000 dollars. No one was injured. A fire marshal determined that the fire was caused by improper disposal of cigarettes.
