ND oil patch city prepares for brief baseball boomWilliston is the host site for the 13-year-old Babe Ruth World Series. Pool play for the 10-team tournament is scheduled to begin Saturday.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A city in the heart of the western North Dakota oil patch will be changing its label from Boomtown USA to baseball town for one week.
Williston is the host site for the 13-year-old Babe Ruth World Series. Pool play for the 10-team tournament is scheduled to begin Saturday.
Some of the teams are preparing for a long day of travel on Wednesday. The Niskayuna, N.Y., team will be taking a bus about 200 miles to Boston, flying to Chicago and Fargo, and catching another bus for the 400-mile trip to Williston.
Niskayuna coach Chris Bianchi says his players are treating the trip as an adventure. He says the travel might be hardest on the adults.
Three of the teams are from North Dakota: Williston, Fargo and Grand Forks.
