Some improvements could be made to the Kennedy bridge by 2016. The Kennedy and Sorlie bridges were discussed Wednesday afternoon at the Grand Forks/East Grand Forks Technical Advisory Committee meeting earlier this afternoon.

Last july the the committee held a public input meeting regarding concerns and possible solutions on what to do with the Kennedy bridge. The committee has analyzed the comments and are pushing toward a possible construction project. Some of the concerns with the bridge were the condition of the pedestrian bike trails and load restrictions, as the bridge receives a lot of traffic from sugar beet trucks. The current progress of the bridge is to have a study done on the concerns brought to the attention by citizens and the conditions of bridge. That study will last until the end of the year. Following that will be another study to determine what exactly will be done to the bridge, whether it be small repairs or a complete rebuild.

The Sorlie bridge is currently looking at a scheduled 2018 construction project. This will be based on further studies conducted by the North Dakota Department of Transportation.
