Name of man killed in rollover accident near Tappen, N.D., released

The North Dakota Highway Patrol is still investigating who was driving in a fatal rollover at 1 a.m. Sunday half a mile north of Tappen, but the name of the person killed has been released.

Matthew Cain, 23, of Napa, Calif., was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, at 39th Avenue Southeast near Tappen, N.D., in Kidder County, according to the NDHP.

The other person involved, Scott Lindegard, 24, of Hallock, Minn., was transported to Sanford Health for medical treatment following the collision.

At approximately 1 a.m., the 2007 Chevrolet was traveling north on 39th Avenue Southeast from Tappen. For unknown reasons, the driver lost control of the vehicle, and it entered the west ditch, where it struck an approach and rolled.

Both occupants were thrown from the vehicle. Cain was not wearing his seatbelt, and it is unknown whether Lindegard was wearing his.

Kidder County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
