Two city workers identified in morning train accident

At 8:36 Wednesday morning, Grand Forks Police officers were called to the scene of a crash at a railroad crossing in the 5200 block of 17th Ave S involving a vehicle and a train.

At 8:36 Wednesday morning, Grand Forks Police officers were called to the scene of a crash at a railroad crossing in the 5200 block of 17th Ave S involving a vehicle and a train.

Preliminary investigation indicates an eastbound utility vehicle driven by 28-year-old Kyle R. Johnson of Grand Forks failed to yield to a northbound train when crossing the 17th Ave S. railroad grade and consequently his vehicle was struck by the train. Altru ambulance and the Grand Forks Fire Department were called to the scene and Kyle Johnson, along with his passenger, 22-year-old Johnathan A. Bartel were transported to Altru hospital where Johnson is in critical condition and Bartel is in serious condition. There were no flashing lights or signals at the intersection Police continue to investigate the crash. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Grand Forks police at 701-787-8000.
