Across the state, it's the first day of school for many students and teachers grades K-9. While the first day back can be stressful for teachers and parents, it's a world of excitement for young students.

At Emerado Elementary some kids said they were nervous for the first day back, but most said they were happy to be back with friends and start a new grade. Principal Chad Clark said students were on their best behavior today, and kids jumped right back in the swing of things participating in reading groups and learning math, science and music. Emerado elementary has just over 100 students this year, and what they lack in numbers they make up for in spirit.

"Excited, excited, excited!", said third grader Montana Murhpy. "It's the first day of school, who wouldn't be?"

Grand Forks and Manvel schools grades k through 9 also started Wednesday. Thompson, Minto and Grafton schools start Thursday.
