FARGO - Fargo firefighters responded to a house fire in south Fargo that started after the homeowners and neighbors heard a large explosion Friday afternoon.

Firefighters had the flames knocked down at 1836 56th Ave. S. within an hour after the fire was reported at about 1 p.m., but not before the flames started to spread to the two homes on either side. The blaze destroyed much of the back half of the house, plus warped the siding of each neighboring house.

Fire Marshal Norm Scot said two people were inside the home at the time of the explosion. No one was injured, but firefighters are still searching for a dog.

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the explosion.
