A McIntosh, Minn., man was arrested Sunday after a two-mile police chase through Polk County.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said the 36-year-old man who has not been identified, was treated at Essentia Hospital in Fosston, Minn., and then taken into custody and placed in the Tri-County Correctional Center in Crookston.

The sheriff’s office said the incident began when it received a report at about 9 a.m. Sunday of a vehicle driving “all over the roadway” between Erskine and McIntosh.

Responding deputies spotted the suspect vehicle on a township road north of Polk County Road 35.

The driver refused to stop. After a two-mile pursuit, according to the police report, the suspect swerved his vehicle at the officer’s vehicle.

Deputies then performed a pursuit immobilization technique, or PIT maneuver, a tactic in which police can force a fleeing car to abruptly turn sideways, causing the driver to lose control and stop.

The maneuver was successful, according to the report, as the vehicle did spin out and came to rest in the ditch.

Charges are pending, according to the report. The driver, who was the vehicle’s sole occupant, is scheduled to appear in Polk County Court Tuesday.
