Business is booming in Devils Lake as several new companies are breaking ground. City officials say there's at least twice as much development in town than normal.

The city has issued more than 20 million dollars in building permits each of the last two years. They average only eight million a year. Leevers Foods and Wal-Mart are expanding and new companies are moving in, like Sleep Inn and Applebee's. Economic leaders in town say we're seeing the culmination of years of effort all taking place at the same time.

The development is helping the city collect more tax revenue. Devils Lake collected more than three million dollars for the first time last year, end officials expect that number to climb once new businesses open. The economic boom is likely to continue for a while longer. The city is considering building a new convention center, and a new business park west of town is likely to draw some big name companies.
