Football is a way of life in Cavalier.
Sandy Laxdal, Cavalier head coach, "There's a tradition with Cavalier football and we try and make our mark on that tradition."
The Tornadoes path was cut short last fall when they fell in the North Dakota nine-man playoffs to eventual state champion New Rockford-Sheyenne.
Justin Gibson, Cavalier senior lineman, "After that, I just kept thinking on how I'm going to improve myself and how we can improve as a team to overcome that team and go to state."
The program took home three consecutive state titles in the early 2000’s and although the Tornadoes have gone deep into the postseason, Cavalier has yet to conquer its goals.
Ryan Chrest, Cavalier senior quarterback, "Frustrating to say the least, to get that close every year and not be able to finish it off like the guys in 2002, 2003, and 2004."
Laxdal, "These kids have experienced going deep into the playoffs and that makes them all the hungrier this season to have some success.”
Success that is defined by one goal.
Chase Walton, Cavalier senior running back, "It we don't make the state championship then it means nothing."
