Grand Forks boathouse expected to open next year

It's a bit behind, but the boathouse project in Grand Forks is still a go.

The future water recreation hub will be located on the Red River near the Sorlie Bridge, and likely open next year.

The non-profit group Ground Up Adventures is in charge of the plans. The goal is to get more use out of the Red River by renting equipment like paddle boards, kayaks and canoes.

The Grand Forks City Council approved the project in July.

Andy Magness with Ground Up Adventures says they were hoping to open by late August, but due to hiccups in the building and inspection phase, it won't be fully operational until next summer.

Andy Magness- Ground Up Adventures: "We've gotten a lot of positive feedback from the community who have been anxious to get on the river already, and who are very supportive of us. We're confident that it's going to happen, you just have to be a little patient."

Magness says they sill need about $25,000 for the project.
