Exhibitor registration is open for the 2nd annual Northern Valley Career Expo Wednesday, Nov. 13 at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks.
Companies in Northeast North Dakota and Northwest Minnesota are invited to use the event as an opportunity to attract their future workforce by showcasing career opportunities they can offer.
“This Expo is just one way we are working to address the prevalent need to retain youth in the region to meet our growing workforce demands,” said Grand Forks Region EDC Vice President Keith Lund. “I encourage businesses to get involved by exhibiting and highlighting the diverse opportunities students will find in the Northern Valley.”
The Expo is designed to educate high school sophomores about opportunities available with Northern Red River Valley employers as they begin career exploration.
In a survey of students who attended last year’s inaugural expo, 83 percent indicated the Expo increased their interest to pursue a career in the region.
In addition to introductory seminars, students tour a showcase floor where businesses have hands-on exhibits designed to let students experience the type of work they could be doing with companies and the skills necessary to become a future employee.
Unlike a job fair, which focuses on recruiting employees immediately, a career expo is an educational opportunity for students. “We believe our regional businesses understand the value of planting the seed with potential employees,” said Lund. “We hope any company that expects to grow in the next four years or more, or is planning to fill positions due to retirements and other turnover, will seriously consider exhibiting at the career expo as a part of their preparations.”
Sectors represented through business and industry exhibits include social services, healthcare, manufacturing, business and finance, engineering, and information technology.
