Two area school districts have experienced enrollment spikes at the start of this school year. Both the East Grand Forks and Thief River Falls School Districts are already adding teachers, or hope to soon.

This year's kindergarten class in East Grand has 26 more students than last year, prompting the schools' superintendent to ask the school board for an eighth kindergarten section.

In Thief River, the district added three elementary teachers to the staff, just five days before school started. The middle school and high school have 30 more students than anticipated. The spike there is attributed to new jobs created by the Digikey and Arctic Cat companies.
