The Grand Forks Fire Fighters will carry on the “Fill the Boot” tradition on Thursday, September 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hugo’s located at 1750 32nd Ave S. and local services for the North Dakota Chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

All money raised is donated to the greater North Dakota chapter of the MDA. Thanks to the support and generosity of the citizens of Grand Forks, contributions send area children to MDA summer camp and help support 350 local families affected my neuromuscular diseases.

“Fill the Boot” is an over 50 year tradition that began in 1954 when a couple of Nevada fire fighters decided to do something for children registered with the MDA affected by muscle disease. So, they grabbed their work boots and headed out the door into the community with the hope that people would fill those boots with money. The people did, and they haven’t stopped. Since that humbling beginning, fire fighters’ boots have overflowed with coin and cash totaling more than $500 million to support MDA’s summer camp, programs, research and services.
