The Polk Sheriff's Department continues its investigation into a bar burglary where an ATM machine was taken -- the second such case in northwest Minnesota in the last two weeks. The first was in the Eagles Club in Karlstad on the first of September.

The owner of the Snow Sled Inn Bar, Deb Leach arrived for work early Wednesday morning to find the door open and a broken window believed to be the point of entry, possibly with the help of a vehicle.

"The only thing I can think of is that they put a chain around it and snapped the bolts holding it to the floor, put it on a dolly and hauled it out," said Leach.

The theives also broke into a office where other merchandise was taken, includinga laptop and the bar's surveillance equipment. All this will leave investigators with less to go on. Investigator Matt Hitchen with the Polk County Sheriff's Department says they also are looking for tips from the public to solve this crime. He says ripping out an ATM machine is nothing new.

"If someone wants something really badly enough they are going to try and get it," Hitchen says.

As for Deb Leach, who did not own the cash machine, she is insured for damages and stolen goods, but her sense of security is something she may not get back. "I feel very violated, very angry that people can even do this to other people."

If you have any information on these crimes you're asked to contact the Polk and Kittson County Sheriff's Departments at 1-877-204-7505 and 1-218-843-3535.
