After several years of debate, the East Grand Forks City Council plans to vote Tuesday on how to proceed with the city’s waste water issue.

The city’s current lagoon system is reaching its capacity. Council members will decide whether to build a new lagoon system in East Grand Forks or to build an interconnect under the Red River to Grand Forks’ sewage treatment system.

The 20-year projected cost of the new lagoon system is estimated to be nearly $18.5 million, while the interconnect is estimated to cost around $14 million.

The council will meet at 5 p.m. in the council chambers in East Grand Forks City Hall.
