The Devils Lake School District is moving closer to giving students a place to sing, dance and act. A committee will present design ideas for a dedicated performing arts center to the school board next week. Currently, performances are held in the school's cafeteria, a situation students, teachers and administrators call inadequate.

A committee has reviewed four plans for a new arts center. It's up to the school board to decide whether to move forward with plans next week. Students say they'd like to have a space all their own, sentiment Devils Lake Superintendent Scott Privratsky echoes.

It's far from certain the arts center will be built even if the school board approves a plan. Privratsky says the district will have to look for private funding before considering asking the public for help funding an arts center.
