Grand Forks Central Senior named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – A Grand Forks Central High School senior has been named a 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalist.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – A Grand Forks Central High School senior has been named a 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalist.

Lucas Nelson is one of approximately 16,000 semifinalists in the 59th annual scholarship program.

Nearly 1.5 million high school juniors entered the program by completing the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Approximately 90 percent of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing and more than half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title. Scholarship winners will be announced in the spring of 2014.

National Merit Scholars are selected by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). The organization’s mission is to recognize and honor academically talented students of the United States.

Nelson is the son of Christopher Nelson and Yvette Koepke-Nelson.
