BISMARCK -- The group pushing to make public school start after Labor Day can now begin collecting the 13,452 signatures needed to put the issue up for a statewide vote.

Secretary of State Al Jaeger approved the sponsoring committee's petition today.

The group will have to collect the signatures by March 12, 2014, to put it on the June primary ballot or by August 6 to place it on the November general election ballot.

The group has said it plans to put it on the general election ballot.

Bob Striebel, husband of the sponsoring committee’s co-chair Linda Striebel, said they will host a webinar Sunday with the 25 members on the petition's sponsoring committee who are scattered around the state to go through the rules of collecting signatures and work on a plan to enlist more volunteers.
