WEATHERFORD, Okla. (AP) - Authorities say six of the eight prison inmates who escaped as they were being transported from Tennessee have been apprehended in western Oklahoma.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Betsy Randolph says the six were recovered along with the transport van and a gun shortly after Weatherford police announced a search for the inmates. Two inmates are still on the loose.

KWEY reports the six inmates who were found were in Weatherford.

The eight inmates escaped while two guards were inside a hospital in Weatherford, though it's not clear why the guards were inside.
