Thompson man guilty of assault

A Thompson, N.D., man who assaulted his former girlfriend twice this year and possessed illegal painkillers agreed to plead guilty Thursday in Grand Forks state district Court.

“I take full responsibility for my actions and just want this behind me and do what I have to do,” said Scott Suedel, 50.

His plea deal includes a three-year prison sentence.

Suedel was initially arrested June 7 in the Thompson apartment he shared with his girlfriend, 28. She told investigators he choked her, lifting her up by her throat, and made her fear for her life.

On July 10, out on bail and ordered to have no contact with her, Suedel was arrested in Grand Forks for assaulting her again and possessing illegal drugs. Police said Suedel was homeless in July.

Judge Sonja Clapp set his sentencing for Nov. 19 and ordered him held until then. She rejected his request for a furlough to see his daughter and grandchildren, citing the violence of his crimes.
