RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) - A former Guatemalan soldier has been found guilty of lying on his U.S. citizenship application about his role in the massacre of at least 160 people more than three decades ago.

A federal jury in Riverside, Calif., found former Guatemalan army officer Jorge Sosa guilty Tuesday on counts of making false statements and obtaining citizenship unlawfully.

Prosecutors said Sosa failed to disclose his role in the 1982 killings in a Guatemalan village when he applied to naturalize, though he was asked about affiliations and past crimes.

Sosa's lawyer said he told officials about his military service during an unsuccessful asylum bid.

Sosa could face both imprisonment and loss of American citizenship when he is sentenced.
