FARGO – A 36-year-old Fargo man is facing charges after he was arrested early Thursday in connection with a car prowling incident in south Fargo.
According to Police Lt. Joel Vettel:
Officers were called about 6 a.m. Thursday to the 2500 block of 14th Street South after a woman reported seeing a man with a backpack who was rifling through her vehicle.
On the way to the call, officers saw a man matching the description of the suspect in the 1200 block of 24th Avenue South.
He was detained and later identified by the original caller as the person she saw in her vehicle.
Vettel said items police believe were stolen were found on the suspect, whom he identified as Joseph Richard Heitland, 36, of Fargo.
Vettel said Heitland will likely face charges of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle and possessing stolen property.
The case was one of two incidents Thursday morning in which Fargo police arrested suspected burglars within a short amount of time after receiving calls for assistance.
Vettel said in both cases burglars took advantage of unlocked doors.
