City crews closed the Point and Sorlie bridges Thursday morning in Grand Forks/East Grand Forks.
City officials say they are taking precautions since the river has gone up dramatically in a matter of days.
The East Grand Forks Police Department is asking drivers to take extra time when crossing the river especially during "rush hour" times.
If the Louis Murry bridge closes the only access to the point area in East Grand Forks will be the Mallory Bridge on Highway 220.
The Kennedy bridge will remain open between the two cities.
The city does not know when the bridges will reopen but they are planning to have them open as soon as possible.
The Red River at Grand Forks/East Grand Forks is now projected to crest on March 22nd at 48 feet.
