Meanwhile on Spirit Lake, tribal members gathered Friday to protest a cancelled recall vote against a tribal council member. Tribal members gathered in Saint Michael, where a vote was originally scheduled to determine the fate of tribal council member Madrell Lewis. A recall vote on Monday ended in a tie. Tribal Chairman Russ McDonald originally scheduled a re-vote for Friday morning, before cancelling it on Wednesday. Both sides cite the Spirit Lake constitution to prove their point. McDonald says since a majority didn't vote to recall Lewis, she will stay on office. Recall supporters say he went back on his word and isn't listening to the people.

Recall supporters say they plan to appeal the chairman's decision to the Spirit Lake election board.
