A 73-year-old Grand Forks man just returned from helping flood victims in Colorado. Mason Hollifield retired from the Red Cross about 10 years ago, but still volunteers his time to help when disasters hit. Hollifield has decades of experience responding to disasters. The main problems he reports were with infrastructure. Wiped out roads and thousands of destroyed homes were a common site. Hollifield spends about four months a year on call with the Red Cross.

While the three weeks in Colorado were tiring, Hollifield says nothing compares to the 1997 flood here. He lost his home, but stayed to help other victims.
