There was a short delay to the beginning of the sugar beet harvest this week because of warmer condition and now rain may again put things on hold. Rain has moved into the area, and farmers are now waiting to see how much they will get Friday.

It doesn't take too much rain to make the beet truck's wheels spin out in the field. Rain started to fall lightly by early Friday afternoon near Crookston. Not enough to bring the harvest to a halt, but that can change. We talked with grower Mike Boucher whose next shift starts up after midnight Friday. Bouchere says he is anticipating he might be able to get some sleep because of the forecast that calls for rain about an inch.
