The Crookston Convention and Visitors Bureau lodging tax is bringing in more cash for the city. Executive Director Shannon Stassen says the month of August shattered records with a 15 to 16 percent increase over any other month.

Stassen cites success from the Crookston Inn, The AmericInn and the Golf Terrace. The lodging tax excess cash is being used to for a grant program to help bring crowds to Crookston with tournaments and advertising.

"The money goes to publicity and things of that nature to bring more events to the community which in turn leads to more lodging tax so we can spend more on events again," says Stassen.

The city is also awaiting the opening of the Cobblestone Inn, which leaders expect to bring even more money into the city.
