12 lawyers and judges apply for North Dakota Supreme Court

The North Dakota Supreme Court says 12 judges and lawyers have applied for the open position on the court left by Justice Mary Maring's retirement at the end of the year.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota Supreme Court says 12 judges and lawyers have applied for the open position on the court left by Justice Mary Maring's retirement at the end of the year.

The applicants: Judge Sonna Anderson, Doug Bahr, Jim Hill, Larry Klemin, Leslie Oliver, Bradley Peterson and Judge David Reich, all of Bismarck; Connie Cleveland and Judge Lisa McEvers, of Fargo; Susan Bailey, of West Fargo; Dan Traynor, of Devils Lake; and Barbara Whelan, of Grafton.

The Judicial Nominating Committee will interview the applicants and make its recommendations to Gov. Jack Dalrymple. He then has a month to make a selection from the list of nominees, ask for another list or call an election.

Maring announced last month she'll retire with four years remaining on her 10-year term.
