East Grand Forks police say a confrontation-turned-assault at the Burger King drive-thru may be a result of a disagreement over an unpaid debt.

Investigators are still sorting out the details, but they say an East Grand Forks Burger King employee was punched in the face by the driver of a car just after four Wednesday afternoon.

The victim was handing out change to a passenger in the back seat at the time. Police Lt. Rodney Hajicek says the driver is an ex-employee of the restaurant.

The victim was scheduled to give a statement to police Thursday, and misdemeanor assault charges are likely to be filed against the driver, who police have not named.
