TEDx, a conference on ideas hosted by many cities around the world, is coming to Grand Forks Feb. 7 at the Empire Arts Center, organizers said.

“The future is always driven by good ideas, and we are excited to bring the community together around ideas worth sharing through the innovative and exciting platform of TEDx,” said Tyrone Grandstrand, a founder of the Grand Forks TEDx and a City Council member.

TED, which stands for “Technology, Entertainment, Design,” is a nonprofit group devoted to what it calls “ideas worth spreading.” The main TED conferences, of which two are head each year, have ranged from gorilla researcher Jane Goodall to Microsoft founder and philanthropist Bill Gates.

TEDx are independent offshoots authorized by TED and held separately.

TEDx Grand Forks has not released the names of speakers.
