A local veterans group says homeless vets have been tricked enough, and they deserve a treat this Halloween. The Devils Lake chapter of Disabled American Veterans is asking the public for food and clothing donations for homeless vets.

Chapter president Pete Padilla says there are 41 homeless veterans in North Dakota, the majority of which served during the Vietnam War. The group will collect items through October 31st and they're looking for anything that can help veterans as winter approaches.

"We're asking for donations of clothing, toiletries, items that homeless people need. Such items as ziploc bags," Pete said.

The DAV is collecting items for homeless veterans at its office in the Holiday Mall in Devils Lake.
