A UND airplane was forced to make an emergency landing Thursday at Grand Forks International Airport.

The plane, a Piper Seminole, landed around 6:00 pm. Justin Phillips with UND Aerospace says the plane took off from Grand Forks and had been in the air for about an hour when the pilot noticed the oil pressure dropping in one of the plane's engines. The pilot shut down the engine as a precaution.

The plane landed without incident with one engine. Phillips says it's uncommon to lose an engine, but that pilots are trained to handle this exact situation should it arise.
