GRAFTON, N.D. (AP) - The northeastern North Dakota communities
of Grafton, Minto and Drayton are taking steps to guard against
rising rivers.
Volunteers are filling sandbags and the Army Corps of Engineers
is working on temporary levees in Grafton, which is on the Park
River.
The corps also plans to build a temporary dike along Main Street
in Drayton, which is on the Red River.
Sandbagging also is being done in Minto, on the Forest River.
The rising river on Thursday prompted officials to close U.S.
Highway 81 at the town. Detours were put in place.
