On Friday East Grand Forks community is rallying around a former Grand Forks Central hockey player fighting for his life. Brenden Gust was diagnosed with Lukemia this summer.

The 21-year-old injured his shoulder playing junior hockey in El Paso this summer. When he went in for a physical before surgery, doctors discovered the disease. He's been going through chemotherapy ever since. Friday night, hundreds gathered at the East Grand Forks Eagles club to help Gust. Proceeds from food and a silent auction will help his family pay for medical costs. Gust and his family say it's amazing to see so much support.

"Feels like graduation again, basically. Basically graduation. Lot of people wanting to talk to you, shake your hand, see how you're doing and all that, see what your plans are, and basically see how you're doing," Brenden said.

"Brenden's played a lot of hockey. Brenden's touched a lot of lives and I can't believe the support...the amount of people that have come out," Brenden's aunt, Randi said.

Gust says soon he'll rejoin his hockey teammates in Texas, where they're planning another benefit for him and his family.
