Cavalier storms to quarterfinal victory

Tornadoes roll to early lead, beat Beulah 75-56

MINOT, N.D. (AP) Cavalier jumped out to a big lead early and romped to a 75-56 victory over Beulah in the first round of the North Dakota boys Class B basketball tournament on Thursday.

The Tornadoes blitzed the Miners from the start, taking a 22-5 lead after one quarter and a 39-19 halftime lead.

Brady Robbins scored 22 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out five assists for Cavalier (18-7), which won for the 17th time in 19 games. Brandon Chrest added 18 points and five rebounds, Brennan Thorlakson had 15 points and Michael Bigwood added 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Kasey Schmidt led Beulah (16-9) with 17 points and eight rebounds.

Dustin Rueb had 13 points and Casey Duppong added 10. Cavalier shot 50 percent from the field while Beulah shot 38 percent.

Cavalier will meet Carrington in Friday's 8:15 p.m. semifinal.
