If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. And for Red Lake County running back Jake Magnel, another chance at the section title is what’s keeping this senior Rebel running.
Jacob Magnel, Red Lake County senior running back, "Definitely thinking about the section championship last year, throughout the summer that's all I could think about was going against Mahnomen and I got that second chance and it didn't come through and I just hope the third time is a charm."
"It's probably going to be Mahnomen. So, we just need to battle and play the best Rebel football we can play."
Since losing to Mahnomen 42-14 back in early September, the Rebels have done just that, reeling off seven straight wins.
Luke Newton, Red Lake County senior lineman, "We stuck with them right away but then they scored three touchdowns and we started giving up. If we could have that game back, I think we could beat them."
Head coach Brian Remick’s team has fallen to the Indians three times in the last year and he knows you have to beat the best to be the best.
Brian Remick, Red Lake County head coach, "They're the defending state champions and the number one ranked team in the state for a reason. Whoever gets there and whoever has to play them will have to play one whale of a football game to try and stay with them. We just want our shot. We want to get there just like everyone else and just kind of see how it lines up."
The Rebels play Lake Park Audobon on October 26th.
