A 49-year-old Grand Forks man was taken to Altru Hospital after threatening himself and sparking a three-hour standoff with police Sunday afternoon.

Around 4 pm Sunday, police were called to a home in the 900 block of North 4th Street. They say a man inside the home was suicidal and threatening himself with an "edged weapon." The Grand Forks Regional SWAT Team was called to the home about an hour later.

And about two hours later the man surrendered to police, and was taken to the hospital to be psychologically evaluated. The name of the man was not released and his condition was not immediately available. Charges may be pending.
