FARGO – Fargo police detained a 16-year-old boy accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in Fargo early Tuesday.
Officers were called to the 60 block of Sixth Avenue North about 6:20 a.m., said police Lt. Joel Vettel. The girl said she had been sexually assaulted just before the call to police.
The 16-year-old boy was still in the area when police arrived, Vettel said.
Investigators were trying to determine whether the two minors knew each other.
Vettel said police did not believe the public was in danger.
“Stranger attacks are almost nonexistent,” he said, adding that in sexual assault cases, the parties involved usually know each other.
Vettel said police were working to establish a timeline of the events in the case, and trying to sort out discrepancies between the two minors’ versions of what occurred.
He did not have any information on the girl’s medical condition.
