Nurses protested Thursday outside the Sanford Hospital in Thief River Falls.

The nurses spent a few hours this afternoon marching up and down the streets near the hospital holding picket signs. They say their insurance premiums and deductibles are going up and that they can't afford it.

Sanford - Thief River Chief Operating Officer Rob Lovejoy says the company supports its employees rights and respects them as people but that benefits are re-assessed on a yearly basis and the company tried to make changes minimal.

"You know, they say that Sanford is a family, then they should provide better insurance for our families," said nurse Tiffany Eidelbes.

Sanford Thief River employs more than 600 people, less than 100 are registered nurses.
