The rising Red River is threatening the city of Drayton...and the city is now taking action. This morning work started on a dike that's being built in the middle of town. Trucks hauled loads of dirt down main street, and bulldozers worked along side the road. A few hundred loads of dirt are expected to come in. The dike will go down Main Street, by the baseball diamond, and by the water treatment plant.
Jacques Vanderlith/Operator: "When the water rises, it'll be about a foot above Main street, so if we don't cover this off then it would just come straight through town."
The dike will stay up until the river goes back down. People are not allowed to walk on the dike.
