The little town of Edmore, North Dakota, is hoping to keep its rural life alive with a community-wide grant from NDSU. A meeting will be held Wednesday with the goal of figuring out what makes Edmore attractive for potential new residents.

It's called a "marketing Hometown America" grant. Edmore is one of two towns in North Dakota that will try to show off what it has for anyone looking to relocate.

Community members will meet Wednesday at Edmore school for the first of two "study circle" meetings. They will discuss what advantages Edmore has compared to other towns and cities. Residents say their strong school system and slow pace of life should be big draws. Superintendent Frank Schill says people often overlook the advantages of small town life.

Frank Schill, Edmore Supertintendent said, "Getting people to realize the quality of life that is here and get people attracted to be in a rural community and commit to a rural community."

Community leaders say they hope 40 residents show up for the meeting. That may not sound like a lot, but it would be more than 20 percent of the population of the town. Community members will also discuss the challenges of marketing small towns at this meeting, and one next week, before coming up with an "action plan" to help bring more people to Edmore.
