ABERCROMBIE, N.D. – Firefighters from a number of communities battled a blaze here Tuesday morning that heavily damaged a grain elevator.

The fire started around 6 a.m. and involved a number of structures related to the elevator, said Mike Ludvigson, who manages the Abercrombie Store in downtown Abercrombie, which is not far from the elevator.

“It’s like Christmas, lots of lights,” said Ludvigson, adding that he had not heard of any injuries associated with the fire, which he said involved a privately owned elevator.

He said the fire was “pretty knocked down” by 8 a.m. Tuesday, but there was still a great amount of smoke coming from the complex of grain bins.

Abercrombie is located about 30 miles south of Fargo in Richland County.
