GRAND FORKS, N.D.––Just as cold temperatures settle in here in the Northlands and more than 125 men and women seek safe shelter each night, a hot water heater at Northlands Rescue Mission has failed. With this unexpected and unbudgeted expense, the Mission is looking to the community to help with the replacement.

“There is never a good time of year for this to happen,” said Executive Director David M. Sena.

Sena said the cost for the new hot water heater plus installation is approximately $12,000 to $14,000. They’re looking for generous donations from businesses, groups and individuals to help cover this cost. “As always, we know our friends and partners will do everything they can to ensure we can meet the needs of those in our care,” Sena said.

It could take up to two weeks for a new hot water system to be installed, so the Mission is encouraging people to donate disposable plates, bowls, cups and utensils that will be needed to serve meals in the interim. They are also looking for churches, civic organizations and other groups who can deliver prepared meals to the Mission, such as pizza, lasagna or sandwiches, to minimize utensils and cleanup.

Financial donations toward the water heater can be made online at www.northlandsrescuemission.org. Simply click on “Give” and then select “water heater” in the drop-down menu. For more information about in-kind donations, please contact Krista Holter at 701-772-6600, ext. 219
