Badger, MN turkey to be pardoned next week by President Obama

There's no small amount of excitement in the community of Badger, Minnesota these days. That's because the turkey raised by the John Burke family will be pardoned next week by President Obama, escaping a fate that normally be-falls most of turkeys this time of year.

There's no small amount of excitement in the community of Badger, Minnesota these days. That's because the turkey raised by the John Burkel family will be pardoned next week by President Obama, escaping a fate that normally be-falls most of turkeys this time of year.

Family, friends and members of the Badger High School senior class will accompany the bird to DC. First there will be a send-off at the Badger school Friday afternoon at 2:20. Senator Al Franken is expected to attend.

The group will leave for Washington from Grand Forks on Saturday morning. Actually, two turkeys, one a back-up will travel to Washington by truck beginning Sunday morning. The President will pardon the Minnesota turkey at a White House ceremony on Wednesday.
