The kindness and generosity of Lake Region residents will be felt around the world this holiday season. Bethel Evangelical Church in Devils Lake collected more than 500 shoe boxes filled with donated items for "Operation Christmas Child."

The nation-wide program collects toys, school supplies and hygiene items and delivers them to children in need in more than 100 countries.

Organizer Tammie Lang says many of the youngsters have never been given Christmas presents before. But she says other items like soap and toothbrushes are just as important as a new toy for a child in need.

The boxes collected in Devils Lake will be sent to children in Madagascar, India, Zambia and Kenya.
