PAGE, N.D. - Fire destroyed a farm house believed to be more than a century old near here Friday afternoon.

The home near 18th Street Southeast in rural Page was fully engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived, Page firefighter Jonathan Dows said.

Cass County Sheriff's Deputy Tonya Grabinger said the fire was reported just after 3 p.m., by the home's occupant, who used a neighbor's phone to call for help.

No one was in the home at the time and there are no reported injuries to those at the farm or pets, she said.

Dows said it took Page's volunteer fire department about a half hour to get the fire under control.

"Our biggest concern was a live power line and active propane tank (nearby)," he said.

No other buildings on the farm were seriously damaged. The house is considered to be a total loss.

Dows said the materials used to build the older home, which he estimated to be more than 100 years old, likely caused the fire to burn so rapidly.

The Salvation Army was on scene by Friday evening and The American Red Cross was expected to arrive shortly.
