The city of East Grand Forks is considering sending its raw sewage to Grand Forks for treatment. The city would still have about $7 million in capital costs if it sends its waste to Grand Forks. If not, phase two of its sewage project would involve a number of renovations to it's current treatment plant that could cost more than $10.6 million. The city still has to decide on which option it will go with.
"You've got to look at all the options. Regionalization was one of those options at that time. We just said it was cost prohibitive so what we've done at this point is went the next step just to see what those costs would actually be by sending it to Grand Forks," said East Grand Forks City Engineer Greg Boppre.
Tonight Boppre recommended that the city council go with not sending the sewage to Grand Forks, but the council has not yet made a decision.
