Sewers Backing Up In Some NW EGF Homes

Overland flooding causes backups in East Grand Forks' north end.

Some residents north of 23rd Street NW in East Grand Forks are experiencing sewer backups into their basements as a result of overland flooding. The city says it is runoff from nearby fields in the area that overwhelmed the city's storm water system. The runoff entered the sewer system and into some basements in the Water's Edge area of the City near the Valley Golf Course.

The City is pumping water from the area, and crews will work around the clock to keep the area contained. Contractors are building small berms in the area to keep additional runoff from happening.

Residents affected by basement flooding should contact City Hall to file an incident report at (218) 773-2483.
